Israeli security forces shot dead a Palestinian during clashes in East Jerusalem on Thursday as they made their way to the home of a man accused of an earlier stabbing attack, medics said.
The Palestinian died after he was shot in the chest at the Shuafat refugee camp, according to the Red Crescent and hospital sources.
The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the man as 20-year-old Wissam Jamal Faraj.
Ahmad Bitawi, the director of Ramallah hospital in the West Bank, said Wissam Jamal arrived at the hospital with a bullet wound to the chest after Thursday’s clashes at Shuafat refugee camp in Jerusalem.
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba Samri says Israeli troops had gone to search the home of a Palestinian involved in an earlier attack. She said they were confronted by thousands of rioters who hurled stones and firebombs at them.

JERUSALEM (JTA) — A Palestinian man was killed during a raid by Israeli security forces in eastern Jerusalem seeking a stabbing suspect.
Wissam Faraj, 20, was killed Thursday evening in the Shuafat neighborhood, according to the Palestinian Maan news service. The Israeli forces reportedly attempted to enter the area to search the home of Subhi Abu Khalifa, who is suspected of stabbing a yeshiva student in the neck in Jerusalem earlier in the day.
Nine Israeli police officers were hurt in the clashes.

“Border Police responded to a riot at Shuafat refugee camp at around 11 p.m. and were attacked by hundreds of Palestinians who threw rocks, petrol bombs, pipe bombs, and used live fire,” he said.
“Fearing for their lives, police shot the gunman and seized his weapon, then used non-lethal means to disperse the crowd to avoid any other injuries.
”No officers were wounded during the riot and no arrests were made, Rosenfeld said.
Tensions were already boiling over in Shuafat, after Wissam Faraj, 20, was killed Thursday night during another riot, when he attacked Border Policemen who entered the area to search the home of Subhi Abu Khalifa, who is suspected of stabbing a yeshiva student in the neck in Jerusalem earlier in the day.
Rosenfeld said at least nine officers were lightly wounded during the clash.

بزخات الرصاص ، وحناجر غاضبة، وبمشاركة حوالي 10 الاف من ابناء مخيم شعفاط والمناطق المحيطة شيعت الجماهير الفلسطينية جثمان الشهيد ” وسام جمال فرج” “20 عاما” .
الشهيد وسام كان قد سقط خلال تصدي جماهير مخيم شعفاط لقوات جيش الاحتلال التي اقتحمت المخيم مساء اليوم الخميس، في مواجهات تخللها اصابة تسعة من جنود الاحتلال، في اشتباك دار مع اهالي المخيم استخدمت خلاله قوات الاحتلال الذخيرة الحية.
فيما اكدت مصادر محلية ان شبان المخيم تصدو لقوات العدو، بالرصاص والحجارة والزجاجات الحارقة موقعين الاصابات المذكورة في صفوف قوات الاحتلال.
مسيرة تشييع الشهيد انطلقت من مستشفى رام الله الحكومي وصولا لمقبرة “عناتا” المجاورة لمخيم شعفاط، وتخللها هتافات غاضبة من المشاركين كرروا فيها الوعد بالانتقام للشهيد والاستمرار بالانتفاضة والمواجهة مع المحتل.
كما تخلل المسيرة هتافات ضد التنسيق الامني ” ليش ليش مرة السلطة ومرة الجيش” بجانب هتافات طالبت برحيل السلطة وقيادتها متهمينها بالتخاذل .
هذا وكان الالاف من ابناء المخيم قد اندفعوا في مسيرة عفوية الى حاجز شعفاط على مدخل المخيم معلنين بداية ليلة طويلة من المواجهات التي قد تمتد لمحيط المخيم في القدس المشتعلة اصلا منذ عدة ايام.
ظهور السلاح في ايدي ابناء المخيم بهذا الوضوح واستخدامه ضد قوات الاحتلال يشير لتصاعد كبير في مجريات الهبة الشعبية في القدس، خصوصا ان احد ابناء المخيم قد نفذ عملية طعن لعدد من المستوطنين صباح اليوم قرب مقر لشرطة الاحتلال في القدس.

Shu’fat al-Quds declares arms and mourns his martyr
With the participation of about 10,000 residents of Shuafat camp and surrounding areas, the Palestinian public mourned the body of the martyr Wissam Jamal Faraj.
The martyr Wissam had fallen during the clashes between the crowd of the Shuafat camp and the occupying forces who stormed the camp thursday evening, in clashes that left nine Israeli soldiers injured in a clash with residents of the camp, during which israeli forces used live ammunition.
Local sources said the youths in the camp were repelling enemy forces, with bullets, stones and Molotov cocktails, and the injuries were reported to the occupying forces.
The funeral procession of the martyr began from the Ramallah Government Hospital to the cemetery of “Anata” adjacent to The Shu’fat camp, and was punctuated by angry chants from the participants repeating the promise of revenge for the martyr and the continuation of the intifada and confrontation with the occupier.
The march also included chants against security coordination, “Why once the authority and the army”, along with chants demanding the departure of the authority and its leadership, accusing it of inaction.
Thousands of camp residents marched spontaneously to the Shuafat checkpoint at the entrance to the camp, announcing the beginning of a long night of clashes that could extend to the camp’s surroundings in Jerusalem, which has been burning for several days.
The appearance of weapons in the hands of the camp’s residents with such clarity and its use against the occupying forces indicates a significant escalation in the course of the popular donation in Jerusalem, especially since one of the camp’s sons carried out a stabbing attack on a number of settlers this morning near the headquarters of the Israeli occupation police in Jerusalem.
