THE B’TSELEM FALSE NARRATIVE:

(taken from the B’Tselem webpage)

Yasser Zaki Madi Abu Madi

21 years old, resident of Khan Yunis R.C, killed on 01 Aug 2014 in al-Mawasi, Khan Yunis District, by gunfire from an aircraft. Participated in hostilities member of the military wing of Hamas. Additional information: Killed together with another operative of the armed wing of Hamas while near a house that was bombarded.

Abd al-Karim Salah ‘Abd al-Qader al-Ghazawi

29 years old, resident of Khan Yunis R.C, killed on 01 Aug 2014 in al-Mawasi, Khan Yunis District, by gunfire from an aircraft. Participated in hostilities member of the military wing of Hamas. Additional information: Killed together with another operative of the armed wing of Hamas while near a house that was bombarded.

THE FALSE NARRATIVE

“Killed … while near a house that was bombarded.”

THE FACTUAL NARRATIVE:

IZZ AL-DIN AL-QASSAM BRIGADES WEBSITE, MADI WEBPAGE

Our martyr Yasir was killed in the F-16 bombing of the house where he was holed up for 18 days.

IZZ AL-DIN AL-QASSAM BRIGADES WEBSITE, AL-GHAZAWI’S WEBPAGE

“He was a member of the air defense unit in Khan Yunis. In one of the ambushes in al-Mawasi area, he was caught by enemy planes. On 1/8 he was targeted by the F-16 warplanes, which led to the death of Rafiq and Yasser Abu Madi.”

SUMMARY

Yasser Zaki Abu Madi WAS NOT killed with another operative “while near a house that was bombarded.” This is false. He was killed in a house where he was holed up for 18 days with al-Ghazawi. A house was not “bombarded”, Madi and al-Ghazawi were.

Madi and al-Ghazawi were targeted by an F-16 aircraft. The two were in a house that served as an ambush site.

“KILLED … WHILE NEAR …” is one of the common tropes found in the B’Tselem databases.

B’TSELEM’S USE OF THE TROPE

DEFINITION

A trope is a theme or plot element used many times, it creates recurrent images that influence an audience’s senses helping a writer achieve a desired effect. The meaning of the text is not literal, it is figurative.

B’TSELEM’S USE OF THE TROPE, “KILLED … WHILE NEAR …”

Killed … while near …” or some version of it, is a common trope used by the B’Tselem databases, it is literally not true. It is a figurative theme or plot element used many times throughout their databases. The metaphorical use of this expression achieves the following effect: It adds the element of victimization to the narrative, it implies that the Palestinian terror operative was not engaged in hostilities when he died, he was just simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, he was in close proximity to a target when it was attacked, and he was killed.

By stating that the terror operative combatant was killed while near a house that was bombarded, near his home, near the a-Tawfiq Mosque, near the entrance to his home, near his family’s home, to mention a few variations of the trope, B’Tselem creates an image of a senseless killing. Missing from this narrative is the fact that the terror operative combatant was specifically targeted and why he was targeted. The narrative merely contains a figurative expression to account for the death of the Palestinian combatant. The trope does what it is suppose to do, achieve a desired effect and influence the reader’s senses

VICTIMIZATION

As previously stated, the B’Tselem databases create the illusion that Palestinian combatants killed by the Israeli security apparatus are victims, victims of an “occupier“. The Yasser Zaki Abu Madi narrative is an example of this misinformation.

Madi, B’Tselem alleges, was killed while near a house that was bombarded, no explanation of why he was killed. By using this trope that conjures up an image of a senseless killing, B’Tselem conceals why he died, what he was doing when he died, and it creates the illusion that this terror operative combatant was a victim in this incident.

The B’Tselem narrative above is patently false. Madi WAS NOT killed while near a house that was bombarded, he was IN the house that was bombarded, where he and another terror operative, Abdul Karim al-Ghazzawi, had established an ambush position to kill Israeli troops. The two “Qassamis”, Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades fighters, had been “holed up” in the house for 18 days when the “combat position” was targeted by Israeli planes.

The trope, killed while near a house that was bombarded, conceals how Madi died, where he actually was when killed and what he was doing when he was targeted. The false narrative, in effect, has defined Madi as the victim.

Yasser Zaki Abu Madi, the terror operative combatant, re-imagined by B’Tselem as the victim.

While the B’Tselem databases have re-imagined Palestinian terror operative combatants as victims, the U.S. Department of Justice has identified who the truthful victims were, they closed down a Hamas fundraising scheme and will redirect the Hamas assets to the factual victims, the victims of their terrorism. The event documented below occurred in August 2020:

U.S. DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE SEIZURE

The original Humanize Palestine website memorialized Hamas and al-Qassam Brigades terror operatives, and B’Tselem represented them as victims, Yasser Zaki Abu Madi is one example.

Now the real victims have been identified. The U.S. Department of Justice has seized al-Qassam Brigades assets, funds and websites, used to finance their terror campaigns. The monies will be directed to the United States Victims of State Sponsored Terrorism Fund.
