Palestinian killed after stabbing soldier, snatching his rifle
Kiryat Gat assilant named as 18-year-old West Bank resident Amjad al Jundi, who stayed in Israel illegally; the soldier was lightly injured.
Ynetnews |Published: 10.07.15 , 13:53
An 18-year-old Palestinian was killed by Kiryat Gat police on Wednesday after he stabbed a soldier and snatched his rifle before running for shelter in a nearby building.
The soldier was lightly wounded after Amjad al Jundi, from the town of Yata near Hebron, engaged him after getting off a bus. It has emerged that he stayed in Israel illegally.
A female Kiryat Gat resident struggled with the assailant after he seized the weapon from the soldier and entered her home while fleeing. According to her relative, he tried to shoot but there were no bullets left in the soldier’s cartridge that he snatched.
“She came back from shopping, opened the door and apparently he tried to open it,” the relative recounted. “She fought him to prevent him from opening the door. He came in and tried to shoot her, but there were no bullets in the cartridge. Then he went into the kitchen and wanted to get a knife. She struggled with him, screamed and fled to a neighbor, and was miraculously saved.” The relative added that police killed Al Jundi at the entrance to the apartment.
The attack in the southern city is the third in the space of a few hours, preceded by a rock ambush in the West Bank and a stabbing attack in the Jerusalem’s Old City.
“An initial investigation revealed that the suspect got off the bus in Kiryat Gat, saw the soldier, and stole his weapon,” a police spokesperson told Ynet. “The soldier struggled with the attacker, and suffered a minor stab wound to his head as a result. The suspect then sprinted into a nearby residential building. Soldiers from the Kiryat Gat station arrived on the scene within a number of minutes and reached the suspect when he apparently began opening fire on them. The police returned fire and he was killed. Police believe that the attack has nationalistic motives.”
Medics and Paramedics from Magen David Adom provided initial treatment and evacuated two people who were lightly injured and fully conscious.

HE HAD ‘MURDER IN HIS EYES, AND I DIDN’T THINK I’D GET OUT ALIVE,’ SAYS LIAT OHANA; ‘THEY SHOT HIM IN MY KITCHEN’
Palestinian attacker stabs soldier, is shot dead by police
Two wounded in Kiryat Gat incident; security forces target assailant after he grabs soldier’s gun, flees to nearby apartment
By JUDAH ARI GROSS7 October 2015, 1:50 pm
A Palestinian man stabbed an IDF soldier and grabbed his gun in the southern city of Kiryat Gat on Wednesday. He then fled to a fourth floor apartment, where he was shot and killed by police.
The soldier was lightly injured in the attack, with wounds to his head, apparently inflicted with a pair of scissors.
A second soldier was injured as well.
Magen David Adom paramedics provided first aid at the scene, the rescue service reported.
Liat Ohana said she encountered the terrorist in the kitchen of her apartment, and that “he had murder in his eyes.” She said she pushed him into her kitchen, where she heard him rooting around in the cutlery, apparently looking for a knife. The gun he had seized had no magazine.
She and her mother fled, screaming, she said, and later heard gunfire. “I didn’t think I’d get out alive, but I was determined to fight,” Ohana said later. The security forces “shot him in my kitchen,” she told Army Radio.
“We could have had a hostage situation here,” said a local police commander. “It could have unfolded very differently.”
The attacker was identified in media sources as Amjad Hatem al-Jundi, from the West Bank town of Yatta in the southern West Bank, and in Israel illegally. His age was listed by Israeli news site Ynet as 19 years old and by the Palestinian Ma’an news agency as 24.
“From initial information, the suspect got off the bus in Kiryat Gat, identified a soldier and stole his gun,” the Israel Police said in a statement. “The soldier clashed with the suspect and was lightly stabbed in the head.
“The suspect fled the scene with the soldier’s weapon toward an apartment building. Kiryat Gat policeman from the Southern District arrived at the scene minutes later, and confronted the suspect, who apparently fired at them. The police officers returned fire and terminated him. There were no injuries of our forces.”
Ohana said she was “sure I won’t be the same person after this.” Asked if she would be sleeping in the apartment as usual, she said, “I have no choice.”
“May God protect us, and all of the people of Israel,” she said.
The statement said that the attack was likely nationalistically motivated but that authorities had yet to determine the identity of the assailant.

‘I thought my life was over,’ Kiryat Gat woman says of terrorist who charged into her home
Liat Ohana got up to close her front door when an Arab man with an assault rifle pushed his way in and began shouting at her in Arabic.
By BEN HARTMAN OCTOBER 7, 2015 17:48
A Kiryat Gat woman told reporters on Wednesday she saw her life pass before her eyes earlier in the day, when a Palestinian terrorist with a stolen rifle burst into her home and tried to stab her with a knife stolen from her kitchen.
Sitting in her apartment on Wednesday, Liat Ohana told Ch. 2 that earlier in the day she got up to close her front door and an Arab man with an assault rifle pushed his way in and began shouting at her in Arabic.
“Right away I understood this is a terrorist”, Ohana said, adding that the attacker realized the gun he stole didn’t have a magazine and then made his way into her kitchen and grabbed a knife. By then Ohana and her mother had rushed out of the apartment with the attacker in close pursuit. The terrorist grabbed her and tried to stab her she said, but gave up and ran back into her apartment.
“We just kept running. I looked death in the eye and thought I’m not going to make it out alive”, Ohana said in the interview.
Witnesses told reporters on Wednesday that the attacker – which Israel Police named as Amjad al-Jundi, 20 from Yatah in the West Bank – had boarded a line 369 Metropolitan bus just before the attack started. Shortly after he boarded passengers realized an attacker was on board and the driver stopped the bus and the passengers fled.
The terrorist then attacked a soldier, stealing his service rifle and stabbing and lightly wounding him, police said.
After snatching the rifle the attacker then made his way to the apartment building, where he entered Liat Ohana’s apartment on the third floor.
After Ohana fled, officers made their way to the building, climbing floor by floor until they found the apartment where the attacker had barricaded himself.
One of the special patrol officers, named as “M” in a video released by police Wednesday, said that he and two other members of his unit were driving home from a training exercise when they received a call about an attack in process.
When they made it to the third floor they found an apartment with its door open and M said they called out to the attacker who told them “get away” in a thick Arabic accent.
M said that one of the other two officers saw that the man was armed and that he then waited on the stairwell with his gun trained on the door. M said the attacker opened the door and pointed his gun at him, at which point he shot al-Jundi, who later died of his wounds.
Al-Jundi did not have a permit to be in Israel legally, police said.
Other than al-Jundi and the lightly-wounded soldier, no other casualties were reported in the attack.

PATENTLY FALSE NARRATIVE, ORIGINAL HUMANIZE PALESTINE WEBSITE
ORIGINAL HUMANIZE PALESTINE WEBSITE
Amjad Hatem al-Jundi, 20 years old, was shot and killed … after allegedly stabbing an Israeli soldier and stealing his gun ….
THE FACTS
This was not an “alleged stabbing” as stated by the original Humanize Palestine website. This stabbing incident has been documented by multiple media outlets, corroborated beyond any reasonable doubt and there is substantial proof that it occurred. Calling the incident an alleged attack is a patently false statement.
Amjad Hatem al-Jundi was shot and killed after attacking a soldier and stealing his weapon, fleeing and then breaking into a third floor apartment. He was killed in the apartment’s kitchen where he was desperately looking for a knife to use as a weapon (the stolen gun had no ammunition).
