Ali Mahmoud Safi, 20 years old, was killed from serious wounds on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 during clashes that occurred two days earlier, with Israeli forces in al-Jalazun refugee camp, near Ramallah. He was the first youth to be killed in this camp so far this year.
The protests reportedly began after locals gathered in opposition tot he construction of a wall between the refugee camp and a the nearby Jewish-only settlement of Beit El.
Families mourned his death in al-Shuhada (The Martyrs’) Cemetery in al-Jalazun refugee camp north of Ramallah on Thursday.

A 20-year-old Palestinian man who was seriously injured in clashes with IDF troops near Ramallah last week died of his wounds on Wednesday night, the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency reported.
The report named the victim as Ali Mahmoud Safi, and said the army had used live fire, shooting him through the chest. The army had refuted the claim, saying at the time that only rubber bullets had been used.
Safi was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition after clashing with troops at the Jalazone refugee camp last Wednesday, and has been in a coma since. On Wednesday, he was pronounced dead.
Several Hebrew media outlets erroneously reported that he had died earlier this week.
According to the IDF, soldiers utilized riot control munitions after dozens of demonstrators in the camp threw rocks at the troops. Only after the situation escalated was the nonlethal weaponry used to disperse the crowd, the army said in a statement.
The man was evacuated to a hospital in Ramallah with stomach wounds after he was shot by a rubber bullet, the statement said.
No IDF soldiers were injured in the incident.
The Jalazone refugee camp is located northeast of Ramallah, in proximity to the settlement of Beit El, 30 kilometers north of Jerusalem.
Refugee camps in the Palestinian territories are often a stage for skirmishes between IDF troops and residents of the camps.
In February, a 19-year-old Palestinian man was shot dead by IDF soldiers during unrest at the Deheishe refugee camp near the West Bank town of Bethlehem.

استشهد الشاب علي محمود صافي 20 عاماً، عصراً، متأثراً بجروحٍ خطيرة جرّاء إصابته بعيار ناري في الصدر أصيب به قبل أسبوع خلال مواجهات مع جنود الاحتلال في مخيّم الجلزون، قرب مستوطنة “بيت إيل” القريبة من مدينة رام الله شمال الضفة المحتلّة.
وكانت قوات الاحتلال أطلقت الرصاص الحي والمباشر على مجموعة من الشبان في مواجهات قرب المخيم منذ أسبوع، وحينها أصابت الشاب صافي برصاصة، أدخلته فوراً للعناية المكثفة في مستشفى رام الله الحكومي.
من جهتها نعت الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين الشهيد صافي، و دعت للمشاركة في تشييع جثمانه ظهر الغد، من أمام مجمع فلسطين الطبي باتجاه منزله ومن ثم إلى مقبرة المخيم.

Ali Mahmoud Safi, 20, died of serious gunshot wounds sustained a week earlier during clashes with Israeli soldiers in the Jalazone camp, near the Settlement of Beit El near the northern West Bank city of Ramallah.
The Israeli occupation forces fired live and direct shots at a group of youths in clashes near the camp a week ago, at which time safi was hit by a bullet, which immediately placed him in intensive care at ramallah government hospital.
For its part, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) called martyr Safi, and invited to participate in the funeral of his body at noon tomorrow, in front of the Palestine Medical Complex towards his house and then to the cemetery of the camp.
