Muhammad Abd Al-Majid Sunuqrut, 16 years old, was killed on Sunday, September 8, 2014 in East Jerusalem. He was shot with a rubber bullet at close range by the Israeli Occupation Forces. Jerusalem police claim he was shot in the leg and fell and hurt his head.
From EI: Muhammad, who would have turned sixteen years old on 9 December, was not particularly fond of school and his grades were not great. But he was a hard-working boy and was keen on improving.
A few months earlier, he had borrowed his cousin’s graduation gown to wear while posing in front of a camera. He had two years left to graduate from high school, and this portrait emboldened him to work even harder.
On the day of his murder: “It was around 8:15pm. I was making salad and asked [Muhammad] to buy us bread after he finishes evening prayers in the mosque and he left the house abruptly,” Ilham Sinokrot, Muhammad’s mother, told The Electronic Intifada.
His death ignited riots in East Jerusalem following his funeral.

Clashes erupt in east Jerusalem, gas station set ablaze, as Palestinians react to death of teen
Father of 16-year-old claims boy was shot in the head by sponge bullet during riot, police claim teen was shot in leg, fell on head while attempting to flee.
By DANIEL K. EISENBUD, JPOST.COM STAFF SEPTEMBER 7, 2014 23:16
…Despite news that the Palestinian boy was declared dead on Sunday, police allege the teen was shot in the leg, and subsequently died from a head injury sustained when he fell after attempting to flee police.
According to Rosenfeld, Muhammad Abd Al-Majid Sunuqrut participated in a August 31 riot in the Wadi Joz neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem when he was shot for throwing rocks at officers attempting to disperse the mob.
“He was struck in the leg, and when he attempted to run away fell and hit his head on the ground,” said Rosenfeld.
The boy was transferred to Hadassah University Medical Center in Ein Kerem after initially being treated at an east Jerusalem hospital.
A spokesperson from Hadassah said Sunuqrut had emergency surgery for internal bleeding in his head shortly after arriving, but did not comment on the nature of the injury.
“When he came to the hospital he was in very bad condition and doctors performed lifesaving surgery right away, but he did not fully recover and died today,” the spokesperson said on Sunday.
The teen’s body is expected to be transferred to the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute for an autopsy to be conducted by a Palestinian doctor with an attorney present.
Sunuqrut’s father told Palestinian media that his son was shot in the head while speaking on his phone, away from the rioting.

Israel forces on high alert after Palestinian teen dies during a demonstration
Israeli security forces have been put on high alert after a Palestinian teenager, who was critically wounded during a protest in east Jerusalem a week ago, died on Sunday.

Jerusalem, Sep 8: Israeli security forces have been put on high alert after a Palestinianteenager, who was critically wounded during a protest in east Jerusalem a week ago, died on Sunday. Muhammad Abd al-Majid Sunuqrut, 16, hurled rocks at officers during a demonstration that erupted in the city’s Wadi Joz neighbourhood Aug 31, a spokesman for the Jerusalem District Police told Xinhua.
Riot police shot the teen in the leg with a sponge-tipped bullet, after he was seen fleeing the scene, the spokesman said, claiming that he then stumbled and injured his head, Israel’s Walla News reported on Sunday.
But the boy’s family claimes police shot Sunuqrut in the head with a rubber-coated bullet in an incident of unprovoked shooting. “He left home and was talking to his aunt on the phone, when suddenly he was shot at close range. After he fell the soldiers went on beating him and wouldn’t let anyone come near him to treat him,” Motabi Sunuqrut, the teen’s uncle was quoted by Israeli daily Ha’aretz as saying.
The teen was initially evacuated to the nearby al-Mokassed Hospital, and later moved to an Israeli hospital in Jerusalem for treatment, where he was declared clinically dead Thursday. Physicians pronounced his death early on Sunday. Hussam Badran, a senior Hamas official, reacted to the boy’s death Sunday, saying that this “killing in cold blood is a crime that necessitates a proper response from all of our people and a strong response from members of the (armed) resistance.”
Fearing that news of the boy’s death would trigger violence, Israeli police were reportedly bracing for large-scale rioting in Jerusalem’s Arab neighborhoods. Weeks-long violent clashes erupted in the city and spread to Arab townships in northern Israel following the killing of Muhammad Abu Khdeir, 16, who resided in north Jerusalem and was murdered by far-right Jewish extremists in early July, in retribution for the abduction and killing of three Israeli teens June 12 by West Bank militants.
INCIDENT SUMMARY
Abd Al-Majid Sunuqrut WAS NOT murdered as claimed by the original Humanize Palestine website. He participated in an August 31, 2014, riot in the Wadi Joz neighborhood of eastern Jerusalem when he was shot for throwing rocks at officers attempting to disperse the mob.
Sunuqrut was shot in the leg and as he attempted to flee the scene, he stumbled, fell to the ground and injured his head. He was taken to Hadassah University Medical Center and had emergency surgery for internal bleeding in his head shortly after arriving.
He died on September 7, 2014, as a result of his head injury.
Sunuqrut’s family claimed he was shot in the head with a rubber coated bullet and that this was the cause of his head injury, not a fall. They also claimed that when he left home and while talking to his aunt on a phone, he was shot at close range and after he fell the soldiers went on beating him and wouldn’t let anyone come near him to treat him. The facts however tell a very different story.
