Ahed Zaqout, 49 years old, was a famous Gazan football (soccer) player and coach. He was killed on Wednesday, July 30, 2014,when an Israeli warplane fired a missile at an apartment in the Italian Complex Tower, north of Gaza City, while he was sleeping on his bed. He played as a midfielder for the Palestinian national football team, and more recently turned to sports broadcasting.
From The Nation: “Zaqout was someone whose voice, sharp wit, and trenchant analysis was a source of joy and escape for a people under constant siege. Providing escape to the trapped of Gaza was in and of itself a political act.”
From Haaretz: “Palestine has lost one of its best players, he may have been the best midfielder we ever had,” Gaza sports journalist Khaled Zaher told Reuters.

Palestine football legend Ahed Zaqout killed in Gaza

Palestinian football star Ahed Zaqout has been killed after an Israeli bomb struck his apartment in Gaza while he was sleeping, it has been confirmed.
Emergency services rushed to the home of the former midfielder on Thursday but were unable to save his life.
Zaqout had recently been working as a coach and as host of a Palestine sports programme in Gaza….

INCIDENT SUMMARY
On July 30, 2014, during the 2014 Gaza war, Ahed Zaqout was killed when an Israeli aircraft targeted his apartment with a missile, killing him in his bed while he slept.
The precision weapon that killed Zaqout, entered his apartment thru the corner of a window, penetrated an interior wall, entered his bedroom and exploded in the vicinity of his bed.
Looking at the pictures above, there can be little doubt that Zaqout was specifically targeted, specifically targeted in his bed. With the exception of the destroyed inner bedroom wall and furniture, there is no explosion damage to the ornate moldings, plaster walls, curtains, lamps or fixtures, no pock marks characteristic of an explosion. The ordnance used was specifically designed to penetrate into the bedroom and kill a person in a bed and do very little damage to any other structures in the apartment. This was a precision targeted military strike.

THE FACTS
Ahed Zaqout was killed when a precision weapon specifically targeted his apartment. The weapon was designed to specifically kill Zaqout in his bedroom while he was sleeping. With dozens of apartments in the Italian Complex Tower, it entered his apartment via an outside wall adjacent to a window, then penetrated an inside wall and entered the bedroom where it did little damage to the moldings, fixtures and plaster walls, but killed Zaqout while he slept in his bed.
The weapon (missile) WAS NOT fired “at an apartment”, it was fired at Zaqout’s apartment and it was designed to kill him in a specific location in his apartment.
