Moataz Ibrahim Zawahra, 28 years old, was shot and killed by the Israeli security forces on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 during clashes at the northern entrance of Bethlehem. He was from the Dheisheh refugee camp.
Zawahra wore a red kuffiyeh tied tightly around his head during the protest — the color a symbol of his political party, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the checkered scarf, a symbol of Palestinian nationalism. According to his childhood friend, Fadi al-Qaisi, “[Zawahra] loved Palestine more than anything… Most of his family has been imprisoned by Israel.”
When Tuesday’s march reached the separation wall, Israeli forces immediately fired tear gas at the gatherers, dispersing part of the crowd. The peaceful protest quickly turned into clashes between Palestinian youth armed with rocks and heavily armed Israeli forces. Zawahra was one of the young men at the front-line of the fight.

At the funeral for 28-year-old Moataz Zawahra, killed the previous day in clashes in the West Bank city of Bethlehem, youths with their faces covered in red keffiyeh head scarves carried his body and called him a “martyr”.
“He was on the front line close to the soldiers and he threw firebombs,” his mother Diya said. “We are only at the beginning of the journey. As long as the occupation exists, there will be martyrs, prisoners and wounded.”

شارك عشرات الآلاف من أبناء مخيم الدهيشة، ومدن وبلدات ومخيمات محافظة بيت لحم، من مختلف الفئات والقطاعات الشعبية والرسمية، الطلابية، والنسوية، والاتحادات العمالية، والمهنية، وفصائل منظمة التحرير الفلسطينية، والاسلامية، شاركوا في تشييع جثمان الرفيق البطل الشهيد معتز زواهرة، بدعوة من الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين ولجنة التنسيق الفصائلي في محافظة بيت لحم.
وانطلق موكب تشييع جثمان الشهيد زواهرة سيرا على الاقدام، من مستشفى بيت جالا، ملفوفا بالعلم الفلسطيني، وراية الجبهة، و رفع الشهيد على اكف رفاقه في الجبهة الشعبية، وسط مشاركة الاف المشاركين من جماهير وفصائل العمل الوطني في مخيم الدهيشة ومحافظة بيت لحم، مرورا بالطريق الرئيسي ، وصولا الى منزل والده، في مخيم الدهيشة، وسط الهتافات الداعية لنصرة هبة القدس والاقصى، والتنديد بجرائم المحتلين في مختلف الاراضي الفلسطينية.
وبعد القاء نظرة الوداع الاخيرة على الشهيد زواهرة، في منزله، من قبل عائلة وأقارب الشهيد، انطلق موكب التشييع وسط زغاريد النسوة، الى شوارع وازقة المخيم، وصولا الى ساحة مدرسة ذكور الدهيشة الاساسية التابعة لوكالة الغوث الدولية، قبالة صرح الشهيد، حيث تمت الصلاة عليه، وبعد ذلك انطلق الاف المشاركين في تشييع جثمان الشهيد، مرورا بالطريق الرئيسي قبالة مخيم الدهيشة، مرورا بدوار بوتين، وشارع السوق المركزي، والشرطة، ومدخل قرية ارطاس، وصولا الى مقبرة الشهداء في المخيم، حيث ووري جثمان الشهيد الثرى، وسط شعارات الغضب والاستنكار لجريمة قتله، واخرى تدعو للوحدة الوطنية، والانتصار لهبة القدس والاقصى، والقيت خلال ذلك كلمة باسم الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين، اشادت بمناقب الشهيد، ودوره في مواجهة المحتلين، واكدت على اهمية الوفاء لتضحيات الشهيد زواهرة، وجميع شهداء فلسطين، واعادة الاعتبار للوحدة الوطنية، والاسراع على انهاء حالة الانقسام، وتوفير كل ما يمكن لإدامة الهبة الجماهيرية الفلسطينية على طريق تحقيق اهدف شعبنا في الحرية والاستقلال والعودة.
وقد عم الاضراب الشامل، الذي دعت اليه لجنة التنسيق الفصائلي، في محافظة بيت لحم، مدن بيت لحم و بيت جالا وبيت ساحور ومخيمات وبلدات وقرى المحافظة، يوم امس، حدادا على استشهاد الشاب معتز زواهرة “27 عاما “، من سكان مخيم الدهيشة.
وبدت الشوارع خالية من السيارات، فيما اغلقت المحلات التجارية ابوابها، كما اعلنت جامعات بيت لحم والقدس وفلسطين الاهلية تعطيل الدوام في هذه الجامعات.
وقالت والدة الشهيد لوسائل الاعلام، انها تشعر بالحزن الشديد لفقدان ابنها، وانه ما دام الاحتلال موجود، فان المقاومة ستستمر، ووستتواصل مسيرة الشهداء والأسرى والجرحى، من اجل فلسطين، والقدس.
اندلعت مواجهات عنيفة، ظهر اليوم، في محيط مسجد بلال ابن رباح، في الجهة الشمالية لمدينة بيت لحم، اثر تشييع جثمان الشهيد معتز ابراهيم حمدان زواهرة”27″ ، من مخيم الدهيشة، خلال مواجهات يوم الغضب الفلسطيني، عند مدخل بيت لحم الشمالي.
وقالت مصادر صحفية ان قوات الاحتلال اطلقت الرصاص الحي، والمطاطي، وعشرات قنابل الغاز المسيلة للدموع، وقنابل الصوت، باتجاه اعداد كبيرة من المتظاهرين الذين رشقوا قوات الاحتلال بالحجارة، والقنابل الحارقة، وذلكنصرة لبة القدس والاقصى، واحتجاجا على الجريمة التي ارتكبها جنود الاحتلال بحق الشهيد زواهرة .
وذكرت هذه المصادر، ان المواجهات تصاعدت، واتسع حجم المشاركين فيها، و ان 15 شاباً اصيبوا بالرصاص المطاطي، فيما اصيب عشرات الشبان بحالات اختناق واغماء، جراء اطلاق جنود الاحتلال قنابل الغاز المدمع، وان سيارات الاسعاف نقلت العديد من السبان المصابين الى مستشفى بيت جالا، واشارت الى اشتعال اشجار الصنوبر امام فندق قصر جاسر اشتعلت فيها النيران بسبب اطلاق جنود الاحتلال لقنابل الغاز والصوت باتجاه مدخل الفندق، فيما لم تسمح قوات الاحتلال بسيارات الدفاع المدني باطفاء النيران.
وقد اندلعت مواجهات عنيفة بين الشبان الفلسطينيين، وقوات الاحتلال، في بلدة التقوع، الى الجنوب الشرقي من بيت لحم، وفي حي ام ركبة في بلدة الخضر الى الجنوب من بيت لحم.
وقالت مصادر محلية في كل من التقوع وبلدة الخضر ان قوات الاحتلال اطلقت الرصاص المطاطي ، وقنابل الغاز على المتظاهرين، وان عددا من الشبان اصيب بحالات اختناق.
كما وضعت قوات الاحتلال حاجز عسكري لتفتيش المركبات والمواطنين، على الطريق الرئيسي المحاذي لقرية دار صلاح، بالقرب من بيت ساحور.
ونعت الجبهة الشعبية لتحرير فلسطين بمزيد من الفخر والاعتزاز، رفيقها معتز زواهرة(التعمري) “27” عاماً من مخيم الدهيشة، في المواجهات العنيفة مع جنود الاحتلال في محيط “قبة راحيل”.
وتقدمت الجبهة إلى عائلة الزواهرة المناضلة، ورفيقها المعتقل الاداري غسان زواهرة شقيق الشهيد بخالص العزاء، وعاهدتهم وكل الشهداء على الاستمرار بنهج المقاومة، وتصعيدها ضد الاحتلال جنباً إلى جنب، مع أبناء شعبنا حتى رحيل الاحتلال عن كامل أرضنا.

Tens of thousands of residents of Dheisheh camp, cities, towns and camps in Bethlehem governorate, from various categories and sectors of popular and official, students, women, labor unions, professional, PLO factions, and Islamic, participated in the funeral of the body of the martyr comrade comrade Moataz Zuahera, at the invitation of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the Factional Coordination Committee in Bethlehem governorate.
The funeral procession of martyr Zoahera began on foot, from Beit Jala Hospital, wrapped in the Palestinian flag and the flag of the front, and raised the martyr on the palms of his comrades in the Popular Front, amid the participation of thousands of participants from the masses and factions of national action in The Dheisheh camp and Bethlehem governorate, passing through the road The main, down to his father’s house, in the Dheisheh camp, amid the chants of “The Gift of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa” and denouncing the crimes of the occupiers in various Palestinian territories.

The general strike, called by the Regional Coordination Committee in Bethlehem governorate, saw the cities of Bethlehem, Beit Jala and Beit Sahour, and the camps, towns and villages of the province yesterday, mourning the martyrdom of 27-year-old Moataz Zuahera, a resident of The Dheisheh refugee camp.
The streets appeared to be empty of cars, shops were closed, and the universities of Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Palestine said they were disrupting their activities.
The martyr’s mother told the media that she was deeply saddened by the loss of her son, and that as long as the occupation existed, the resistance would continue, and the march of martyrs, prisoners and wounded would continue for Palestine and Jerusalem.
Violent clashes erupted at noon in the vicinity of Bilal Ibn Rabah mosque, on the northern side of Bethlehem, following the funeral of martyr Moataz Ibrahim Hamdan Zouahra, from the Dheisheh refugee camp, during clashes on The Day of Palestinian Anger, at the entrance to bethlehem.
According to press sources, the Israeli occupation forces fired live bullets, rubber bullets, dozens of tear gas canisters and sound bombs, towards large numbers of demonstrators who threw stones and firebombs at the Israeli occupation forces, in support of the flames of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa, and in protest against the crime committed by The soldiers of the occupation against the martyr Zuahra.
According to these sources, the clashes escalated, and the size of the participants increased, and 15 young people were injured by rubber bullets, while dozens of young men suffered asphyxiation and fainting, as a result of the firing of tear gas canisters by Israeli soldiers, and that ambulances transported many of the injured Spaniards to Beit Jala hospital, She said pine trees were burning in front of the Jaser Palace Hotel, which caught fire as israeli soldiers fired gas and sound bombs at the entrance to the hotel, while the israeli occupation forces did not allow civil defense vehicles to extinguish the fire.
The israeli government has not been able to reach a settlement in the west bank of the Palestinian self-government, the palestinian minister said.
Local sources in al-Taqwa and al-Khader town said the israeli occupation forces fired rubber bullets and gas canisters at the demonstrators and that a number of youths were suffocated.
The occupying forces also set up a military checkpoint to search vehicles and citizens on the main road adjacent to the village of Dar Salah, near Beit Sahour.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) called it more proud and proudly called its companion Moataz Zuahra (27) from Dheisheh camp in violent confrontations with israeli soldiers in the vicinity of the “Rachel’s Dome”.
